What is Open Graph?

Open Graph is a set of <meta property="og:…"> tags, invented by Facebook, that control how your page looks when someone shares the link on social media or chat apps.

Also called: og tags · og:image · social preview

The core tags are og:title, og:description, og:image, og:url, and og:type. Twitter, LinkedIn, Slack, WhatsApp, iMessage, and Discord all read them (Twitter also honours its own twitter:card family, which usually mirrors OG).

Skipping OG means every shared link falls back to whatever the platform can scrape — often a random image and truncated title. Setting them means every share is a mini-ad you designed.

og:image should be at least 1200×630, less than 8 MB, and hosted on a stable HTTPS URL. Cache-busting query strings are fine when you change the artwork.
