Background removal used to mean an hour in Photoshop. Modern ML models do the same work in seconds, and the best ones now run entirely in your browser — no upload, no subscription.

What the model actually does

It segments the foreground subject from the background by predicting a per-pixel mask. The mask is then applied to produce a transparent PNG. Quality depends heavily on subject-background contrast.

Where it struggles

Wispy hair, transparent objects (glass, smoke), and busy backgrounds that match the subject's color. For these, run the tool, then touch up the edges in an image editor.

Composite onto a new background

After removal, drop the transparent PNG onto a solid color, gradient, or new photo to build product shots, headshots, or social graphics without studio lighting.

Frequently asked questions

No. The background-remover runs the ML model entirely in your browser. Your photo never leaves your device.
