CSV is defined by RFC 4180, but in practice every tool bends the spec. Common variants use semicolons or tabs as separators, different quoting rules, and different line endings.
Because CSV has no schema, dates, booleans, and leading zeros all round-trip as strings. That's why phone numbers and ZIP codes often lose their leading zero when opened in Excel — the app guesses 'number' and drops it.
For anything richer than a flat table, prefer JSON, Parquet, or a proper database export.
